Meaning behind

Kahilwayan is a word from the language of Bisayan’s (people from the Visayas Region) Hiligaynon, which is a counterpart for the other type of language spoken in Visayas that means Freedom.

Kahilwayan plays an important part in the history of Visayas as it symbolizes the bravery of Illongos who stood up and fought against the Spanish oppressors on November 17, 1898, And was later launched by the Municipal Government in 2001 as a celebration of the heroism of Illongos, known as Kahilwayan Festival.

Just like how these people stood up and fought for the country, Kahilwayan, a youth organization will also run and build bigger chances for you, for us, and for everyone.

KAHILWAYAN is an advocacy campaign managed by students to broaden knowledge and raise awareness in understanding and respecting the vital role of gender equality in our society. This campaign is targeted mainly at everyone as well as Del Pilarians along with the members of the LGBTQ+ community.

Through our campaign, we aim to advocate equal rights for members of LGBTQ+ and seek to call for an end to the existing discrimination, which will enable our tagline to widen the “knowledge to acceptance and freedom to express.”

We will encumber the struggles faced by the LGBTQ+ community, end the existing stigma, and determine the threat of stereotypical ideologies and beliefs by providing resourceful information through our content.

In a terrifying world of judgment and disrespect to one’s beliefs and personal agendas, KAHILWAYAN believes that every person, regardless of their sexual identity and gender, is in a big fight to try and change the orbit of formulas that seems to outgrow the knowledge and acceptance for all.

KAHILWAYAN believes that there is a vast difference in the way others treat people out of their gender understanding. We, as an organization, will show how knowledge can be the key to acceptance and freedom to express, and in this way, “we can build bigger chances for tomorrow.” For you, For us, and the future. We believe that there is the heart and soul in every person that anticipates love and acceptance for all.
